LINE is an instant messaging platform developed by the South Korean company Naver. Its main user base is concentrated in Japan, Thailand, and Taiwan. As the platform has evolved, LINE has expanded far beyond messaging, gradually introducing services such as ride-hailing, games, digital payments, e-commerce, and even original animated content based on its proprietary IP.
According to the official licensing information, LINE Seed is free for both personal and commercial use, with the exception that the font itself may not be sold independently. For commercial applications, it is recommended to clearly credit the font source or ownership within the relevant product or service.
LINE Seed was developed through collaboration with several international type foundries, including Dalton Maag (UK), Fontworks (Japan), Fontrix and Sandoll (Korea), Cadson Demak (Thailand), DynaComware (Taiwan), and the LINE Creative team. Together, they created a typeface that preserves LINE’s brand identity while supporting complete and consistent typography across multiple writing systems.
LINE Seed is a minimalist sans-serif typeface designed for versatile use across a wide range of contexts. Built on a geometric foundation, the design follows Latin typographic principles while incorporating rounded corners into CJK characters and maintaining visual consistency with Japanese typefaces. Softer curves are added to enhance a natural, harmonious feel, making the font equally suitable for both body text and headlines.
LINE Seed currently supports five language systems: EN, JP, KR, TH, and TW. In addition to Thin, Regular, Bold, and ExtraBold weights, the EN version also includes a Heavy weight, offering excellent flexibility for typographic pairing.
